Internal temperature range study?

I am new to tortoise husbandry in general but something that I am well aware of is the need for a thermal gradient, with adequate temperature ranges, within an enclosure to allow for the proper thermoregulation in most tortoise species. This got me thinking about monitoring the internal temperature of a tortoise and if that has been done before in a way to show species specific ranges that would indicate some sort of safety thresholds at the low and high ends. I have been searching for a little while and I cant seem to find any information so I am curious if anyone here knows more information regarding this topic? Or even if it has been studied before?

I think that if you could somehow readily and accurately measure the internal temperature of a tortoise, while also making sure those thresholds were not approached, temperature related issued would be easier to avoid.

This is more of a hypothetical but I would like to know that other people think!
