So When I got my tortoise, I got x2 PowersunUVB bulbs... The old one was time for it to be changed, now the new one went out and popped. (internally) What do I do?? I am so broke its not even funny and I can't leave him out side as it is a little bit of a cold front here and its not good enough outside to keep him warm! would my old PSUVB bulb be ok for awhile? I only changed it as it is advised to change ones every year...

Sorry... Autocorrect got me a couple times...

If you can't return it, you can try to get your money back from Zoomed, pretty sure they have a 1 year guarantee

Yes, go ahead and use your old Powersun. It's still putting out heat. And if that one pops just put a 75 or 100 watt incandescent in the fixture to keep your guy warm.

It won't hurt your tortoise to go without artificial sun for awhile. So use the old one for now, until you can afford a new one. If you get any chance to get him outside before then, do so.

I have sent many bulbs back to Zoo Med. You just need a copy of the receit to show that its under a year old. They are very good about honoring that and getting them sent back to you pretty quick. Good luck!

Save yourself the trouble of sending it back. If you can scrape up the money, go buy a new one. The same kind and size. Then in a couple days return the blown one to the store. Sounds dishonest, but if zoo med says they will last three years, then thats how long they should last. You are just letting the store return to zoo med instead of you having to hassle with it. However, your tort can go a while with out UVB without harm.

Torts can go for awhile without UVB, naturally you don't want to make it long term, or a regular thing. Be more concerned right now about the heat, use the old one, or a incandescent light bulb.

Its about a year and a month old.... The one never used is the same age just never used till it popped

That's why I only ever buy one bulb at a time. Unfortunately the warranty doesn't start when you start using it :(

Email ZooMed anyway, maybe they'll make a special exception for you!

But then he's screwed if the new one doesn't work, right? :p Also, is it bad that I have done this before, and I happen to work at the store that I'm returning to? :p

If the new one doesn't work either, then just return it for an exchange. You already got your money back when you returned the old one. No one really gets screwed, except zoo med maybe, but it's their product that isn't lasting as long as they say it will. It's just saving the consumer the hassle of sending it back and waiting for zoo med to get around to dealing with it. No, I don't think it's bad to do it at the store you work at. If you did it at another store you would have to pay full price. I assume you get a discount on your purchases through your work.

I have met and dealt with the team over at ZooMed several times. They are great people and their customer service is EXCELLENT. They will take care of this problem.

Chase, are you using the right size hood? You need a big 11" one with the vent hole around the top. MVBs run hot and they need to be able to cool.

Hahaha!
I hate when manufacturers will return something (says on the package etc) yet stores won't return it. I've returned more tort stuff to other stores and gotten credit then I can remember. Never broken stuff though.

Usually the company either just writes it off or they get credit from the manufacturer without having to return the broken and defective stuff. Saves everybody a lot of hassle and shipping costs.

At least Zoomed's bulbs aren't as terrible as Zilla's. I will never EVER buy any zilla product just because they are so terrible at making light bulbs and they con so many people into buying so many.
