So recently I heard some possible great news. I heard that I might inherit a family russian tort! I do not know if it is fine to have two different species in the same environment? I have a Texas Three Toed, and we want whats best for her. So, company or solidarity? Could a Russian Tort live with a Texas Three Toed?

Could they, yes. Should they, no. Never a good idea to mix species. Congrats on the Russian though! I have multiple species but a designated area for each species. They never mix. I'd suggest that to you as well.

Torts are usually solitary in the wild and Russians are no exception.

They do not generally share nicely and if there is company squabble over territory, shelter, food, sex...

With Russians in particular the fighting means blood is drawn.

So never mind mixing species being inadvisable, mixing Russians is too!

Russians are probably the worst species to try to mix both due to parasite/pathogen potential, as well as behavioral reasons.

Torts don't feel lonely. Having to compete for resources or fight another tortoise will only make one or both feel more stressed. They are perfectly content having all the good stuff to themselves in their own little kingdom.
