Hello!
A few possible explanations:
1. A room humidifier (yet 80% humidity in a living room is too much for the most people).
2. They have an adult tortoise from temperate climate.
3. They don't bother with humidity (and use just humid hides, restricting food intake, basking lamp timings). More often than not this results in pyramiding.
4. They removed a cover (e.g. greenhouse top) to make a photo.

They don't keep humidity in. It just floats up and into the room. Most people don't house their tortoises correctly.

The enclosure on the left looks like it would be suitable for a small male Testudo, and the enclosure on the right looks too small for anything but a small juvenile Testudo. Neither enclosure would be suitable for any tropical species that needs warm temps and high humidity 24/7.

Thank you so much.

Is there anything you can tell "these people" that might help them towards keeping their animal correctly without being regarded as nosy and interfering?
