It's really a self-perpetuating dilemma in the making. As more and more folks breed sulcatas, the price continues to drop for hatchlings, and the newcomers to tortoise-keeping are naturally attracted to the cheapest starter tort. They have only the foggiest notion of proper husbandry or the size that little baby will eventually attain -- and unfortunately, a lot of breeders / re-sellers just want to move the merchandise. I foresee the day when baby sulcatas will be advertised at $100...here's your baby and here's a hundred dollars for taking it.
