How long should lights be on?

I use a strip light for uvb and a 65 watt halogen spot light for a basking area I have them on a timer to come on at 7am and turn off at 9 pm. Is this too long or is it okay? I use a che on a thermostat to keep temps up all day and night so my main concern is if its keeping him up too long or of I'm using too much light throughout the day.

12 to 14 hours is fine. I keep mine on for 13 hours.
