How do you know when your map turtle is mature?
Size typically. But this question can be answered in a couple ways. If your looking for sexual maturity in breeding. Or your looking for maturity in just outright adulthood? Turtles never stop growing. They just slow way way down once they hit a peak. Males typically mature much quicker in most taxa. With maps males stay quite small. Females can mature somewhat quickly depending on care and husbandry. When a female
First starts follicular development she will begin to cycle the ova in the ovaduct. This is same for mammals. Expcept fmthe eggs from reptiles aren't shed or dropped like typical mammals (menstruation) they are fertilized developed and then encapsulated inside the egg developed from calcium and then dropped. So once follocules are started then each season they become more and more prolific. Prime breeding for females is usually much more seasoned than when first started. Males will always have a drive to breed.
