Hi got indoor set up ready bar the tweaking last weekend, applied to several rescue centres and we can't believe it got a call from SSPCA they had two Horsefield tortoise available we rushed up and reserved our wee boy he's gorgeous. With great relief passed our home check and had Munro home and quickly settled. He had a good rampage around his new home and is such a character I can't take my eyes off him. He quickly made himself at home pooed within the hour and ate some petals... I won't go on I'm off to get Munros bath ready. Oh got vets next week going to get him microchipped not sure how old he is maybe 5 hope to find out then. Can't help myself keep tweaking indoor setup. Congrats on the adoption. Unfortunately, your tortoise, even though small, should have an enclosure much larger then the one he's in. Russians roam a big area in the wild. A 3 or 4x8 should be a minimum and even that's small. So, when you can, do try to get him into a large space. I know you probably didn't have much time, so you did good. The water dish could also be bigger and a little deeper, like a clay saucer that goes under flower pots, at least for when his enclosure gets larger.
I forgot to mention, be sure to read the caresheets for adult Russians under the russian section.

Hi, and welcome to the Forum!

I think your age guess on Munro is pretty accurate. He looks captive bred and about 5 years old.

Hi thanks working on outdoor space at leat 8x5.5ish at moment and yeh think we will need to expand indoor enclosure in future, noticed water dish was too small/shallow as was pot after raking around the garden found larger pot and pot saucer temporary solution but better than he had will keep tweaking. On the up side he loves snapdragons, nasturtiums, rose petals, brambles and leafy greens. Enjoyed his baths and is thankfully eating and toileting fine. Munro has vets next week for health check and microchip fingers crossed he doesn't fall out with me as he seems to prefer women.
