My dad found this tiny guy him few days ago and we have no idea what kind he is. We assumed he was a tort, but upon talking to a rescue center through e mails, they suggested he is a box turtle. Now we are more confused :tort:

We have him in an old 65 gal aquarium for now with a 75 watt bulb.
We tested him in 2-3 inches of water and does not dive nor struggle. Just drinks.
He has been sleeping all day even with the heat lamp on.
We really want to know his breed to take really good care of him.
Posting pics as well. Thank you :D

Yup, you have a 3 toed boxie there!

Three toed boxies behave more like torts than turts though.

Thank you for your reply:) I have been looking online at various pictures. I found some that look just like him, and some not so much.
I am thinking since he is just a hatchling, he will change into he colors I have seen.

Based on size and assuming that it's a wild your Box turtle is probably about 2 years old.

So this is a wild box turtle your father happened upon?

Hi oogway2012:

Your box turtle is probably someone's escaped pet. Lots of times people put their babies outside for some sun and a bird might pick it up and drop it outside the pen. You might consider putting up fliers on the utility poles around the neighborhood where your dad found the turtle.

(I'm assuming that you don't live in a state where box turtles occur in nature)
