I know it's not advisable to put 2 Hermann's together. But, what if they were both about the same size, age and were both females? Still a no? No, I am not interested in adding a male to the mix. Thanks!

One or 3+ in a very large space (outdoors) is pretty much your only options.

You can always give it a try, but you have to have a back up plan in mind too. Always be prepared that you may have to set up a whole other habitat if they start to fight.

Thanks Yvonne. I will consider your words when the time is right. :)

My females never fight, but my male is sometime "hyper amorous", so must go to "time out" occasionally....are you positive both of yours are females?

I only have one... I'm 100% sure she is female.

I see...well, if you get another, get a confirmed female of approximately the same size and you'll likely have no problem, as long as both are well fed and have enough room (4' X 6', minimal) with plenty of places to get away from one another, as desired. Jennifer and Ophelia get along famously, eating beside one another with no "arguments".

Two males, otoh, means battles constantly, eventually to the death of one...

You can try it. There is no firm and fast rule on tortoises, each tortoise has it's own personality and each enclosure can make a difference. You may have no problems or you may have to separate them. Usually being of the same size is a help, as is having a large enclosure with lots of visual barriers. I guess there is one firm rule, any time you have more then one animal of any species, you must always be watching for problems to happen and be ready to separate them .

It is rare that two females have a problem together. I would not worry too much about purchasing another female.
I would be hesitant to add a male without 3 females around for him to spread his affection around. Males can be very aggressive, although rarely you can find a passive one.
Space requirements need to be carefully considered.
Cheers
