Help - tortoise hibernation

I have not fed my tortoise for 3 and half weeks now put him in a box with fresh soil in a cold unused room however he is just sat on top of the soil and not trying to hibernate I'm not sure what to do.

Please post pics of your tort and his/her enclosure, so as to enable us to help you more easily.

Whereabouts do you live? And what's the weather like now back there?

What's the room temperature? And is the box covered?

What type of tortoise?

Hi he is a Herman and no I havnt covered it with a lid I will try that. Thank you both of you.

It needs to be cold and dark.

I hibernate my hermanns in 4-6 degrees celcius were its dark. Maybe the light bother your tortoise? Maybe its not Cold enough?
