Hey my tortoise's lower beak came out but not totally and I'm really worried. Can anyone help and tell me what to do? I hand feed her for now and she is eating normally like before. It's been 4 years since she is home and it's really scary.
What all things should I give them to eat to avoid lack of nutrients?oh my! That needs to be tended to. The reason it happened is because the beak was overgrown. In my experience the lower beak grows out like that due to poor nutrition and lack of calcium/UVB. The poor calcium/UVB problem made the beak weak and because it was overgrown stress on it, biting his food, caused it to break. The crack going up into the flesh is quite painful, just like when your fingernail breaks off into the flesh of your finger. Continued stress on the crack each time he bites will keep it from healing.
The lower beak needs to be trimmed by someone who knows what he's doing, but in the meantime you can help by cutting up his food so he doesn't have to bite.
The first thing you need to do is take the tortoise to a good vet to have the beak trimmed properly. Hopefully you are able to do that in Mumbai. I seem to recall that it is illegal to keep Star Tortoises as pets in India. Is that still true? If so, would the vet report you to the authorities for having the tortoise?Hey my tortoise's lower beak came out but not totally and I'm really worried. Can anyone help and tell me what to do?
