Hope it's not a snapping turtle. It can put his head and feet completely in and close himself all the way in

Another for mud turtle. Cute little guys, but I know very little about them.

No, it's a mud turtle. Mud turtles are Cryptodira which draw necks completely draw neck into shell while West African mud turtles are Pleurodira which draw neck to side of shell. Most Southern Hemisphere water turtles are Pleurodira (sideneck) while Northern Hemisphere water turtles are Cryptodira (as are all tortoises).
