How long do you consider a Tortoise a Hatchling? Also why do so many people say hatchlings are heartbreakers? Thanks for the help

I consider a hatchling under a year, and they often die when propel get them and they were kept under dry conditions.

Well remember it all depends on how he was kept.

I remember that the 1 year old Sulcata that I saw there had a lot of pyramiding and they were kept on hay with no water :( However he has always eaten well and drank well. He gets soaked often and sprayed, so maybe he will be alright

What usually happens is that the tortoise kept in dry conditions then develops renal failure and takes a month or two to die. I am not trying to scare anyone. just keep him hydrated and all should be ok.
