***MOD NOTE: PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT THIS SELLER ON CRAIGSLIST. HE HAS AMENDED HIS AD AND IS NOT ASKING A RE-HOME FEE ANY LONGER***

I very nicely informed this guy that selling desert tortoises was illegal, and he even thanked me, but he still hasn't taken down the adds. Anyone who would like to flag this guy will help take his post off. He is in both the Inland Empire and Orange County sections.

I don't like to be mean, but I hate seeing DTs being sold. :(

14 DTs were recently stolen from a private zoo in California. Maybe its just a coincidence, but it is suspicious that an add for DTs just popped up on Craigslist.

It's definitely odd, but he does not indicate he is selling them in the adds. Is advertising of any kind not permitted?

He says there is a "rehoming fee" which means he is selling them.

I don't see that in the ads.

I'm thinking he has amended his ads and taken away the fee portion. I don't see anyplace in either ad where he's asking a fee. I've also sent him a nice email advising him of the regulations and letting him know that the DFG monitors Craigslist ads and the fine might get as high as $10,000 per animal. I also told him it is perfectly ok to adopt out the animals with no fee.

Maybe he updated the ad and I'm looking at the old one ....

I had wondered, if that might be the case. Perhaps your words did get to him.

Nope ... I looked it up again on craigslist and I still see "asking relocation fees."

(2), Captive Born Mohave Desert Tortoises RARE. I believe females, 3 years old, I have had them since I watched them hatch. Have 6' X 8' outside terrarium for them. Will separate if needed, only serious respond, will respond with pictures.

Try clearing out your cache (lol, sorry I'm not techy, but I hope you understand what I mean). It appears he updated it.

Still - it is a bit odd saying that they are rare and only requesting "serious" people to respond.

Kim:

Your computer is probably giving you the cache picture and not re-loading the ad fresh.

LOL! Well, as long as he's not selling them ... that's all I care about. Thank you everyone for helping out. So many people don't know that they can't be sold. This guy was very polite and thanked me, so hopefully the case is closed. :)

Don't mean to sound dumb, but how exactly does one obtain one then? I'm not interested, just curious.

Is this just illegal in California?

I know some of you guys have them, so I was wondering how one legally obtains them. I hate to see people illegally sell or obtain animals. :\
