Hi guys I was wondering instead of paying for the expinsive calcium supplements if I would be able to ground cuttlebone bone up into a fine powder to sprinkle over the food or would it be better to buy calcium powder. If so which brand is recommended? Thanks!

Just buy calcium carbonate at a health food store. Cuttle bone is about 85% CaC. Why grind your own? Cost is about 5 or6 bucks for a good size bottle. Supplement plus sunshine is the best.

Some members do just scrape some over the food now and again rather than grind it up.
Some torts will nibble on the cuttlebone themselves if they need more (but not sure about leaving it in with babies)
Many members do use other supplements too such as Nutrabal which can be expensive but is not intended for daily use so should last a while.
I make holes in the lid of mine and use it like a salt cellar.
But don't overdo either.
Have a look at the Tortoise Table website - they have advice on supplements.

You can grind it up. However, I tried that with a mini food processor/grinder/chopper and it ruined the blades.
