Hi everyone,
Quick question! My russian tortoise loves eating Timothy hay, is that okay for him to consume?

It won't hurt him, and depending on the rest of your diet, it might be adding the fiber his body needs and craves.

Make sure he is well hydrated. I would soak him at least a couple of times a week to be safe.

The hay is high in fiber which is why I offer it. He eat kale, lettuce, radicchio, cucumbers (to hydrate on top of soaking.) so he had a variety which is good. I just offer the hay for him to graze on after he finished his food.

I wish my russian would go for hay and grass straight up. Would make it a lot simpler than mushing grass products into her food

He loves it! Throughout the day he's always eating it. It took him a long time to do that, but I think he realized he could eat it after 6 months haha
