getting a new tortoise

Hi there I'm getting my horsefield on Thursday which will only be 1yr. I'm currently making an out door enclosure. I was planning on a rabbit hutch with a run which extend from under the hutch out 5ft and is about 4ft wide. I have a raise bed where I will place this enclosure as the bed itself is walled so no escaping hopefully.
I was going to strip all the mesh off the run and replace with a combo of wood and Perspex.
What are you thoughts, ideas welcome.

I see no reason to strip off the mesh and replace it. Maybe a picture would help us.

I was told tortoises can't see the mesh so might injure themselves on it ?
