Gender help and keeping multiple tortoises

We’ve just been given 3 tortoises and would really appreciate help identifying their gender. They’re all 1.5 years old but the first is an inch shorter (3” vs 4”) than the other 2 so we’re unsure if they’re the same gender or maybe a different sub-species?

Also is it okay to keep all 3 together, or would it be advisable to try and re home 1 or 2? We have a temporary enclosure that’s 5ft x 3ft but we’re looking to build an 8ft by 3ft tortoise table in the near future

Hi James. Welcome to the forum. They are all a bit too small and young to be sure, but 2 and 3 are looking like they might go female. Too hard to tell on number one from the pics. The tail is in a shadow and its too dark to see.

Hello James and welcome. I live in Devon too, just on the border with Cornwall. We have a Hermann's tortoise who is now 23 years old, who we have had since he was a baby. We think he is wonderful !

The table you have now and the one you are thinking of building is too small for three tortoises of their size.
I agree that the last two look female and the first possibly male but they may still be too small to positively ID the sex.
If it does turn out two female and one male, they could live in a group but they need a much bigger enclosure they you have listed. More like a room size.
Also they would need proper depth as they will be laying eggs at some point.
