Garden center dracaena safe?

I'm fully aware not to feed plants bought from supermarkets and garden centres because of the chemicals they use. Do you think a dracaena bought from a garden centre is suitable simply for providing shade? I don't think my tortoise will eat it as the stalk is tough.

Plants sold in garden centers are often sprayed with chemicals to make them look healthier and against any flies or worms. I would not use a fresh bought plant for my tortoise.
