It's only been 2 weeks or so and I already made a few changes to Louie's home. I made it another 10inches taller with a full sheet of plexi glass on the top with the light and Che hanging from the inside. The front is on hinges and swings down to open it up. It will be much easier to keep temps and humidity up. And on a side note you could tell he hasn't been feelin good. Turns out while I was making this he was taking a warm soak and he let his bowels run free. Like alot he was just constipated and ever since he hasn't stopped running around his new enclosure. So all it well now.

Here are a few pics from his morning soak. Today was my day off so I went a d picked up a humidifier and some hose and ran it into his enclosure. I works great on a timer. Hot and humid now throughout. I couldn't be happier with how it turned out.

Nice pics of your enclosure and tortoise, ummm aren't the bulbs a little close though? How many inches from the basking bulb and CHE to the top of the carapace? I thought I read it's recommended to be 18" if I am not mistaken.

I'm not sure as far as inches go I would say that's about 12-13in. As far as distance goes both the Che and mvb have dimmers on the fixture as well as plugged into a thermostat. So they are not fully turned up all the way. I'm at about 82- 110 and a humidity in the 80s with the new humidifier hooked up. It is on a timer and turns on every 2hours during they day and once at midnight.

Thank you for all your responses. I am using coco coir along with sphagnum moss around the base of some plants and in his hide.

Thank you. I have plans for a second floor already but that won't be for awhile. He doesn't need the room at the moment.

hi there, give yourself a pat on the back for a job well done.i would imagine mvb's are the same the world over and should be wired direct to supply and not through a stat or dimmer.correct me if i'm wrong.

In your first post you said your tort wasn't feeling very well. one of the reasons for that might have been because of all the changes that he has been going through. If you remember they are just tortoises and should be treated as so. In the wild they are not use to changes of scenery and this could cause stress to the tortoises leading to sickness. after changing a tortoises enclosure you should leave it be for as long as possible before changing it again. if the tort does get sick sick from this, just make sure he is eating and wait for two weeks for him to get better as if nothing was wrong. if he's not feeling better by then, get a vet.

really great job on the enclosure!http://www.tortoiseforum.org/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
