Hi all,
It's been awhile since I have posted hope everyone is well. A male Russian tortoise was found wandering on a roadway in a neighborhood close to where we live 2 weeks ago. The finder was elderly and was getting bad information like "its native to the area return it to the wild" we stepped in and offered to house it until the owner was found. I am assuming it was abandoned as we have blasted all of social media and no one knows anything. Anyway this little guy is not eating, he had a few weeds and spring mix the first day and now nothing else. His beak was pretty overgrown I have been working on getting that down slowly. Indoor housing is a bit small which we are working on but its not too bad, we are also increasing the size of our outdoor enclosure to accommodate him. The outdoor temps here are much cooler then normal so none of the tortoises are getting consistent outdoor time. (We've had 2 females for years, yes they are separated
) All of his immediate needs are met, temps are good, daily soaks (he drinks a good bit) etc. Is there anything I can tempt him with or is this just going to be a waiting game until he settles in? He is the first male we've had and he is quite the scrappy little guy, tons of head bobbing, and no fear as far as approaching your hand when feeding etc. My girls get fresh weeds daily, supplemented with dandelion greens and spring mix when weed patch gets low, ZooMed softened pellets mixed in every other day or so, these are all things my girls have lived off of for the last 8 years or so. Kind of at a loss as to what I can do next. Any suggestions are welcome! Pics below, any advice on how the beak trimming looks are welcome as well. Thanks!!
