Hello, I found this red ear outside near my neighborhood, I had him for a Lil bit seemed to get healthier but noticed his shell . Any information is greatly appreciated. In 40 now going to a 75 , fluval fx6. Clean water 50 percent change once a week.

Does he have an area to get out of the water and basking under a heat bulb? He also needs a uvb tube fluorescent

Yes he has a big basking area with heat bulb and uvb

He hasn't had the best start in life. Looks to me as if whoever had him before you kept him in a dry terrarium. The only thing you can do is set him up like RES need to be set up and feed him well. Make sure he has UVB and a place to 'sun' himself. As he grows the shell may start looking more normal, but if not, it only makes him more special.

that doesn't look like normal shedding, i'd guess he was kept in really unsanitary water ..... i think that may be bacterial , i'd wipe his shell down with chlorhexidine daily and let it dry before putting him back in the water ..... silver sulfadiazine cream which is a script would be helpful also......no matter what it is , that would do no harm......

Thanks for the info ordered chlorhexidine, will have to get a vet for the script.
