I was taking my tortoises outside for a walk and found this guy in the shade next to my front door. I live in northern Virginia in a townhouse complex. Is it native to this area? Should I just leave him alone?

That's a very pretty female eastern box turtle. Are you in a rural area?

Yes, they are native to virginia.

I'm in a suburban area. The closest pond is a half mile away and that's a man made pond. It seemed pretty dry so I sprayed some water on it. It still hasn't gone anywhere - just sitting there. Should I take it to a rural area and let it go?

No, they are territorial. If you move it out of its territory it will try to find its way back. You can put out a saucer of water if you want, but she's more than likely ok without your help.
