Please excuse my total lack of knowledge on tortoises! Do tortoises need tortoise food in bags? My mother in law said she once tried her tortoise on some colourful sweet smelling pellets, but he wouldn't eat them!

I'm having a hard time at the mo, as I'm not even sure what tortoise I have! I'm trying to do my best, but only had him a few hours, and he's gone to sleep now!

Hi Amber. Personally, I stay away from the petstore food. You should be safe, until you know for sure what you have, with feeding it Romaine Lettuce from your market. There are sure to be experts here to advise you. Keep checking back.

Hi Amber:

Your little Mediterranean tortoise (probably a Hermann's, but they all look like Greeks to me) will get by on dark, leafy greens from the produce market. I'm not a fan of manufactured tortoise diets. Some of the folks I know in the UK use a lizard diet...I think its called Komodo diet. That would be ok for you to use, but in addition to the greens, not instead of them.
