Fly repellant

So this is kinda gross but i live in the Midwest so the flies should be dying off... But I live on a farm in a drafting farm house that I rent. My RF is in an open top housing and she attacks flies like mad. We spot clean her poo but her food draws them in too I think. Curious if there is a repellant I should be using or if I need to break down and cover her... She's pretty big so humidity isn't an issue anymore so I was hoping to not have to cover her but the flies gross me out.
