Hi everyone!
I’m excited to make my second post on this site. Ever since I adopted Shlomo(6y/o) 2 years ago, this site has been bookmarked on my computer as the “go-to” site to gather all of the information regarding sullies:)
Today, I was playing with Shlomo and noticed that his tympanum(eardrums?) looked flaky. Does it look normal to you?
Flakey skin often indicate dehydration right?
Which brings me to my next question.
He is getting big to the point where I am having a difficult time carrying him. He has a large but shallow pond in his enclosure which he goes into on his own occasionally.(leaving a big poo poo in it every now and then:oops:) I also mist him with the hose almost everyday. Especially during summer times. Would I still need to continue to force him to stay in an enclosed space to soak him?
Thank you for reading:D

Greetings.

Good looking Sully you have there. Maybe a bit dry looking, so i agree with you that you should help with getting more soaks.
Where are you located?

Have you ever tried applying a little bit of organc coconut oil on his shell, head...etc?

Welcome....and Post more Pix too.

Here’s our Sully getting a soak and rub down yesterday afternoon

Wow! What a beauty!! Mine would never stay still in such a shallow box...
I live in SoCal, so it is definitely dry here. I do use small amount of organic coconut oil just on the crease where the new scute is growing from. But I’ve never thought to apply it on his skin.
I just soaked him and applied little bit of coco oil on his face.
Thank you!

That looks a whole lot better. A little bit now and then might help you out there in your pretty dry environment

Good luck.
