Out of all the years I've been up north, in the Carolina's, Virginia's, Tennessee, all the way up to Pennsylvania, I've never found an EBT in the wild. I'm on vacation in Tennessee and I finally found one, in a rather odd place….I was standing out of the sunroof of the car (No, I wasn't driving at the time

) and spotted him in a puddle on the side of the road. The location kind of worries me, as it's pretty much between two very, very steep hillsides, on the side of a very steep road (steep to the point that it's hard for me and the dogs to walk down it, and steep enough that your near-screwed without 4-wheel drive) going in between them. Definitely not a place I ever imagined finding one, in such a steep area. About a mile down the road there is an open field with a creek running through it, right next to the woods, that looked like much better territory to me. But, what do I know about where they pick to live

So here's a barrage of phone-camera pics.

Now heres why the location worries me, and I almost wondered if some idiot brought him up the road and dumped him….Two days later, found him again in the late afternoon, same location.

So, needless to say, after all these years, I was pretty excited to have finally seen one in the wild. Definitely in the last place I would ever expect to see one though, haha. Now one day if I get to see an NA wood turtle in the wild, that would be amazing. Something tells me they take more looking then just the luck of stumbling upon one, though.

Very nice looking fella for sure. It is kinda a strange place for him to be, specially two days you see him in the same place. In my area, they would most likely already be hibernating with the cold nights we've been having. Sure hope it isn't someones pet that they dumped and it never had hibernated before. Don't know if they were never allowed to hibernate (yes, I know proper word is brumate) in captivity, if they would still know to do it once put into the wild.
