As far as "rocks" go. A flat rock. Or a section of flat cement, sandstone. slate or terra cotta in an enclosure is excellent for keeping nails worn down naturally.
Every time the tortoise walks over it, the nails get filed down a little.
This is true for any enclosure. For any tortoises of any size.
Ok thanks again!

Ok thanks I will look at those.
You can get slate slabs on Etsy if you can’t find them otherwise.

I got a slate hide with a removable top. It gets really hot if under the light. (not ideal for tortoise basking but makes a nice hide)

I should add - I would not use this if mine were a climber and there was a risk of him overturning because of it….

Mine is definitely a climber AND a digger. Thanks for the suggestion.

Mine is a digger too but he likes this anyway. Its pretty cool in there until it has a direct source of heat. I think he "digs" a bit in here but it keeps his nails low.

I did buy regular slate from amazon, too. THey sell them as cheese boards

We moved to North Carolina where it rains every other day, especially in fall, winter, and spring. Also we like his company.
What part of NC? I an near Greensboro. I have a simple outdoor enclosure that my greek tortoises love. They recently had babies, so I will keep them inside for the winter then they will go outside with the other two.

Hope your other two are not housed together? Tortoises should never be kept in pairs. Stress and male over trying to breed the female is a death sentence.
