Hi! I usually only have Greek Tort's but I had two male Russians "dropped" off on my doorstep ..... I'd like to trade one male for a female...or buy a female... I know little about Russians, but have a happy group of Greeks ( 2 adult males, 3 adults females, 2 yearlings and 11 new eggs)....any advise on how to change my male/male russian group to a female/male group????

Hi GoodLaura:

Welcome to the Tortoise Forum!!

What would you like us to call you?

And may we know appx where in the world you are?

Turtle clubs that do adoptions and Rescues get in Russian to adopt out. Do you know of such an organization in your area?

Hello and welcome.

Russians can be very aggressive with each other. I recommend you house them separately, if you just want a pair. I recently read a paper by some European russian keepers and they have great success keeping the males separate from the females and only introducing them periodically for breeding. If you want to house them together I suggest at least two or three females to your one male and a very large enclosure with lots of hiding places.
