Is there a preferred time of day to feed? Also, what should be the time relationship between feeding and soaking? Thanks.

I don't really think it makes a big difference, but I feed right after soaking.

In nature, Russian tortoises feed when the temperature is right (usually in the 70s and 80s). This means that, in the spring and autumn they feed in the middle of the day when it's warmer, but in the summer they feed in the morning and evening to avoid the heat.

For an indoor tort, of course, temperatures are going to be ideal all day long, so you can pretty much feed them whenever you want. My guys like a big breakfast. A good rule of them is give them a pile of food about as big as they are, or what they can eat in about 20 minutes. If you want to feed them twice a day, just give them half that amount each time.

As for soaking, I agree with the above comment. Bathe them first, then feed them. You can prepare the food while they're bathing so it can be waiting for them when they get out. They'll often start feeding almost immediately after their bath. :)
