To start off with, hey. I have a 2 year old Herman’s tortoise who I love very much and call Lenny.

Lenny eats his food every day and walks around his enclosure for the majority of the time he is awake. Last year, all he did was sit under his basking bulb not moving. I’m not sure what has prompted the sudden change in his activity levels but I’m very pleased to see it. Maybe he has gotten more comfortable with his enclosure?

Anyway, I’m wondering how I can make his enclosure more enriching for him. Right now it has the following;

Terracotta food bowl
2 shallow water bowls
Upturned plant pot (he never goes in this just walks around it)
Spider plant
Cuttlefish bone
Log hide with sphagnum moss in it (he also never goes in this but sometimes he will climb on top of it somehow??)

If anyone has any suggestions of plants I could easily keep alive, or objects I could put in the enclosure to ‘entertain’ Lenny please let me know!

No with the moss on a log. It can cause an impaction. Hen and chick plants (succulent) works good and it's fine if they eat it, pesticides free.

Lenny sounds an adorable happy tort🥰would you mind if we got a picture of your enclosure? Just maybe to help brainstorm on different ways you can play around with your landscape?
I’d definitely remove the moss as it can cause impaction if eaten.
Other than that I think adding a few more plants for visual barrier will help keep your little guy interested in exploring😊
