My five year old cools off all day under an oleander bush, when i went to check on him yesterday i found him munching on some leaves. I know they are poisonous to mammals, anyone know anything about reptiles?
Oleanders are pretty much toxic to everything. I don't know how much it takes to cause a reaction though. Usually after a mouthful or two, most animals wont touch them again. But to be on the safe side, you might want to trim those up out of his reach.
Ive heard of animals dying from eating ONE leaf.. I know of a llama that got a hold of some in mulch/grass clippings.. died an awful death. it affects the heart.
i wont allow it anywhere near my place...
I would not let the tort near it. I would not even have them in my yard. I have read some true murder books where oleander was used to kill people. I have also read news storys about people accidently dying from oleander.
