I think my CDTs are eating the moss in the humid hide.
Does anyone know why they would do this?
Is it bad?
Should I take it out? What should I use instead?

Hi Angi:

I don't know about eating moss, but I have found it helpful when a tortoise eats their substrate, to use Sticky Tongue Farms - Miner-all instead of calcium on their food for a week or so.

I don't know if its the same issue when they eat the moss, but it won't hurt anything to give it a try.

I'm in pleasant Georgia where I have nothing but moss on my 'lawn' my aldabs eat this because it is the only green thing in the yard. I figure if it went in it cam come out... Did you notice the comment about the coconut husk mulch?

Different forum... sorry.

Coconut husk mulch is a great substrate in that it really holds moisture and doesn't mould.

It is sold in compressed bricks.
