Hi tortoise lovers,
We have had our Greek tortoise for 7 years now. We have tried many different kinds of bedding in her enclosure, but all seem to create so much dust when she is walking around and when we are sifting through to clean. My son & husband have bad allergies & are reaching the point where they want me to give her away.... but I am so attached. When Turty hears my voice in the morning she comes over to the side of her enclosure trying to get out so she can get her "shell scratchies". She has such a great personality! Any suggestions??? Please help! I don't want to let her go!

The 2nd tank is how all of the surfaces in the room look after cleaning her enclosure. ?

That substrate is no good, it is an impaction risk. The best substrate that many people use here is fine grade orchard bark. I was going to say welcome to the forum, but as you’ve been here a while but haven’t posted yet, happy first message!

The problem isn't your bedding choice. The problem is the complete lack of moisture in your bedding.

The best substrate for your greek would be dampened fine grade orchid bark. If you put your location in your user profile, members around the country can make recommendations on where to find it.

You could also use coco coir, and that also need to be kept damp.

Another alternative is to make a large outdoor enclosure for your tortoise to use doing fair weather. This would be ideal.
