He is absolutely darling!! Reminds me of my Wally. How long did it take to get him that big? My babies have a long way to go. Thank you for sharing.

I hear that the desert torts reach their full size at about 20 to 25 years.
The tortoise specialist vet said that he could be a hundred years old - we know he was full grown 58 years ago, so that makes him at least 78 to 83 years old.
These carrots were about the last thing he ate before he went into hibernation.

That's so cool, I can't wait for my babies to get big enough to roam the backyard or build them an enclosure.

When did Duncan come out of hibernation? Wondering because of his age. Do they sleep more, like people or less. Everything went well?

Duncan woke in mid March with the others. His advanced age is not a disadvantage in any way! He is the strongest and the smartest, and he dominates the others! This year his new trick is to approach them while they are eating grass, bob his head aggressively, and then eat the grass they were eating! "I'm going to eat your lunch, ant there's nothing you can do about it!" They just back away and find another spot.
