Beautiful tort, but I have a question. What do you have hanging in the background? Is that a herb thingie or for tortoise food. I have a huge bunny problem and am very interested in what you have done.

If you can, look at the thread I created called "outside enclosure". That will give you good detail. It's 6 inch irrigation pipes that is loaded with soil. It grows my parents veggies. I also have a gutter on the other side that is filled with grazing tortoise and Russian tortoise weeds and grass. I trim and throw it on the ground! Wonderful idea my parents found.

I've had Dexter since June of 2012. I have been observing the shell since I've owned him. How do you guys think his shell is doing? It looks good to me, but I'm open for criticism.

Looks great! I dont see any pyramiding at all, not sure what everyone is referring to as pyramiding. Also i like the dark color looks very attractive to me :)

I'm no expert, but that looks like a Sudan adult male to me. They tend to get very large and they tend to have a higher dome like the one depicted does.

The over head shot confirms it for me. NO pyramiding whatsoever on Dexter.

I agree, the overhead shot seemed a little different. Possibly a higher domed shell?

Blake...do you have a weight on him? I found out from the breeder...and I think Tom eluded to it earlier...that he did sell off some of his Sudan stock years ago...so I doubt there's a cornered market, technically! It turns out the mother of Climber and Jamie is one of his stock! Climber is now 17 1/2" SCL and 34 lbs...at 3 1/2 years! My wife and I have both noticed that he's growing rapidly again!
