Hi everyone,
I have a desert tortoise hatchling that just hatched a couple days ago, out of a clutch of 6 eggs. These were accidental babies as we thought our adult was a male. We found the clutch and incubated the eggs. They hatched successfully, but the last hatchling can’t seem to use his back legs. It looks swollen in his rear left side and his left leg doesn’t really open up. He can move using his front legs but really doesn’t use the back legs at all. I’ve been keeping it in the incubator but I’m not really sure what to do. Do you think he will survive? I don’t have experience with hatchlings so I’m really not sure how to handle this situation and care.
