Has anyone ever used seeds for deer food plots to grow their own Tort food?

Yes. Last year I bought some seeds from an online source that was for grazing wild animals such as deer. It contained quite a bit of clover, but the clover grew to be about 4' tall! The YF tortoises loved it because it provided so much shade.

Why do you ask?

I was thinking about using some to plant and use for my tortoise food instead of just store bought greens. I would use weeds but I cant ID the weeds and their is so much conflicting info about what is safe and what is not. So im thinking if i know what im planting there is no question if it is safe or not.

I noticed alot of the deer seed has rye blend in it. Is that safe for torts?

Yes. Rye is a type of grass. You have to consider what type of tortoises you're feeding though. Russians go more for the broad-leaf greens and the desert-type go for the grass type.
