You see this type of shell growth a lot. My guess is that when the tortoise was younger the light/heat source was hanging to close to the top of the shell and it was burned.

Thank Yvonne, I knew I can alway count on you for some answer. If I had the enclosure and weather for the I would adopt them but I don't.

I never understand the whole visitation rights thing. Once the animal transfers ownership, they lose all rights unless they sign a contract or something.
