Okay. So my russian tortoise has this thing for climbing. He's constantly trying to climb on stuff.. Is there anything I can add so he has something to climb on? I'm planning on getting a half log hide, but is there anything else I could try? He seems to love it.

Russian tortoises prefer to go over things rather than around them, probably moreso than any other species. But that does not mean that they require obstacles to climb on. In an indoor enclosure where the basking source is close and substrate usually soft you really don't want your tortoise climbing on things that will cause them to be overturned and possibly trapped under a hot basking light. Just the opposite, any obstacles where that could potentially happens should be re-arranged or removed.

Climbing is a common thing amongst tortoise and turtles....so the best thing to do is know that this is possible regardless of your enclosure...I personally avoid "climbing" objects ....other use them but I don't want to give cause to climb....lol...
