Hello,

I have a 4-month-old baby hermann tort. I recently made stuffed clams and I decided to use the leftover clamshell as my tort's new food bowl. I put it in today and he has been biting it a lot (maybe because it has purple coloring). I feel that this is good because it will keep his beak trimmed and also provide him with calcium. But just to be sure, are clamshells safe for torts to ingest?

I wouldn't think so. But it's just a guess.
I'm not an expert in the matter.
But they seem very hard and potentially sharp.
Finely crushed coral, eggshell and cuttlebone are known to be safe.
