in most of the pics I see on here the carapace always looks shiny do people apply anything to make them look that way? just curious

Yes for pictures some will have the shells wet, use oils or the shell conditioner stuff in a little jar (am blocking it's name right now)

Yes, I have always noticed that too. I think most have just taken them out of the water or misted them. Try it, the shell does look a lot nicer when shiny.
