thank you!The top one is Italian parsley and the bottom one is mustard greens.
oh cilantro! or parsley (?) either way they're both safe i'm assuming. since this mix is for tortoises.I think the first might be cilantro, already growing in warm weather. Where in California are you?
The second is a radish or a turnip, they are relatives and sprout early.
All are safe, although my tortoise hates cilantro!
oh shoot, will my cilantro stop growing then? They are both safe, although few tortoises will eat parsley. Plenty do eat cilantro, just not mine.
I think it’s cilantro because of how “frizzy” the edges of the leaves look. Usually this happens when weather starts warming up and the plant begins to set seeds, also known as “bolt.” Once a plant bolts all the energy goes into seed production and fewer and fewer regular leaves are produced. I can grow parsley here but don’t bother with cilantro as it almost immediately goes to seed in the spring.
thank you! that makes sense. they grow in "waves"It will get increasingly small leaves and be mostly stem and flower heads. Maybe your tortoise will eat stems as well.
I don’t see much point in growing cilantro past June in Southern California but perhaps you are higher up. The turnips (or radishes) in that mix will bolt as well; they are late winter/spring plants. That’s okay! There are other things that will turn up later and do fine in the heat so long as they are watered. This is why it’s a seed mix, not all one thing.
