Picture of box turtle I believe an eastern which a friend found on road this summer near Mattson IL. I don't know if it was someones pet or wild.
Also have not determined if it is a male or female.

That is a GORGEOUS Eastern. It was a wild turtle, I'd say 6-10 years old. I am leaning towards female, but a picture of the back legs would seal the deal, lol.

It pretty much has to be a female, the eyes give it away! I agree eastern box turtle

the eyes?? I once had a Egg laying female with Bright Red eyes! So im not too convinced that brown eyes determins gender. Wish i still had my pix of her to show but computer crashed a while back and lost everything.

I agree - I have a couple red eyed boxies that are females. I really feel that one has to look at the totality of the indicators (tail, concavity, carapace shape) to determine box turtle sex - not just one.
