Greg, do you think there's cognition/recognition on their part or was this just a photo taken at an opportune moment?
Either way it is a spectacular photo that really makes one wonder what goes on in the mind of a tortoise.

* Great question, if you saw the entire event you would, without doubt, think they knew each other. Homer could very easily be his father!

* I lay in that field for hours some days just observing behavior and how they interact, etc. My thoughts are that there is more cognitive abilities than we can imagine, however is it just me simply putting human emotions and thoughts in play?

* Todays event was completely unprompted. I was taking pictures and left the main gate slightly open, well CC made his way into the big field and headed straight towards the big Aldabras like he had a mission. He went up to two adult females and both ran off from him, he simply headed straight towards the big males and began to walk cautiously up to Homer and they seemed to recognize and know each other. After sharing some hay and a lot of touching noses, etc. CC must have got too hot and walked off to the shade.

Either way it is a spectacular photo that really makes one wonder what goes on in the mind of a tortoise.

* One observation that really caught my attention was how gentle and delicate Homer reacted and acted near CC, truly out of character for him at many levels! Just amazing to me!
