Anybody want to try their hand at raising a leopard tortoise from a brand, new baby?

If I didn't already have a herd of leopards I would soooo love to get a baby fresh out of the egg ;) Congrats on hatching some.

Congrats on the hatch. I'd be very interested. What are your thoughts on shipping so young? Have you set a price?

I may have jumped the gun a little. My partner, who lives in San Diego, (Will) is the one who will be selling them. I don't know what price he's put on them. But if the weather between you and San Diego is warm enough, shipping a hatchling is ok. Contact him. His username here is Will.

They are adorable ! Are they most likely male or female? Also, I have 2 yearling leopards. Can they share the table?

They were incubated on the high end, so hopefully female. There's quite a size difference between a brand new baby and a yearling, but it might be doable in the right habitat.

Oh my God I want one! But sadly, I do not NEED one. I already have four six month olds. They are cute though. Hummm....

Oh! So teeny tiny. Wish I could. Don't even care if they are Bb or Pp or PpB. Oh that just gave me the name peanut. Dang, wish I wasn't in Canada

...and, on the same day Tortellini's babies are hatching, Cincinatti is digging a nest:

Why do they always decide to dig a nest in dead of winter and at night? Notice the excessively wet mud to the right of the hole. The tortoise pees a lot to soften dirt so she can dig easier:

Of course, this makes for very dirty eggs unless you have the patience to sit there and catch them as the come out. Unfortunately for me (and the eggs) I lost patience. She's positioned over the hole and her tail is going back and forth, but this is the first clutch she's laid in several years, and its not happening quickly.

Nine eggs from this gal. She was finished and covering up the hole at about 9:30p last night.

Yes. Many years ago he used to live here in my town, and when he moved back east I took care of quite a few of his turtles and tortoises until he could send for them. We became partners at that time when we decided there were a couple tortoises just too big to ship back east.

Awesome! That's a neat fact about the peeing

Yes, and I don't know if its coincidental or not, but the day before she dug the nest she was sitting in the water drinking, and she stayed there a very long time. I guess she was taking on her reserves!

Very interesting. Do their sleeping and eating habits change when they are incubating (is that the word for making eggs internally)

I may have another 10 or more years before any of my tortoise will lay eggs.

But this is a long term project anyway.

No, the only difference you might notice is that the female gets restless. She might pace the yard, or look like she's trying to escape.
