I have read some discussion about using aquarium HQI light for tortoise/reptile. It seems like HQI light is better than UBV light bulb. Has any one had any experience of using it? Thank you!

Hello
Please someone correct me if I am mistaken but the HQI lamps does not give UVB but only light that has a high lumen ratio. You need a UVB light for your reptile. Does your tortoise live outside during the year or inside??

I believe HQI is type of metal halide lamp, and there are some HQI produce uvb, maybe? I read some euro forum about using hqi lamp for tortoise.

I also found following new metal halide light bulb info: http://www.reptileuv.com/megaray-metal-halide-uvb.php

I don't know exactly if hqi lamp provides uvb, so I would like to hear anything about it.

I did not try it myself but I heard a lot of good comments on the mega ray system.
