What species is he and how long you going to be gone?
Most leaves the tort at home, puts lights and heat on timers and has someone/family/friend stop in once a day at least to check in on them, feed and water.

Hi and welcome,
I'm guessing that in the UK you'll have a Mediterranean tort like a Hermanns, Greek or Russian (Horsefield). If so this is the caresheet you need to make sure your temps, diet, substrate etc are right
It s very up to date and if you follow that your tort will thrive not just survive.

I'm in the UK but not your area. It's always best if he can stay home with someone popping in to make sure he's OK and not tipped on his back etc., but failing that do you have any tortoise sanctuaries near you?
They sometimes take torts in for holiday periods, but make sure you ask if he can have his own enclosure; it may cost more, but torts should be quarantined before mixing with others and you don't want him to get sick.
Vets may also be able to help especially if reptile specialists.

He's a Herman. 3 years old. I would ask a family member but they are away with us and we just moved so don't quite want to ask the neighbours yet. Normally we would leave him with somone like that though. :)

How about any family members friends? Any with teens that need gas money? Offer to pay.
I paid my tort care person 20.00 bucks a day. He drove here, not too far, and had to feed and water 4 or 5 torts depending on when it was. This was a few years back. Probably would pay more now with the gas prices
Might even get a vet assistant or receptionist in your area to do it at their house or vets office. Maybe you could set the enclosure up in an area like the garage, so the person doesn't have to enter your house?
It's hard sometimes. Good luck

Hi Emma, so in London if it helps, I live in Fulham and there is a pet shop called The fish bowl, I think is £4 a day but I need to investigate more for my babies for next summer, also yesterday I have been at the Northampton Reptile Centre and it costs £8.5 a day, these are the only places I could find in London.... Just planning for my next year summee holiday, also I would ask the size of vivarium... I believe the Reptile centre has more space and bigger for the price but The Fish bowl not sure, mines are around 1 year old or less, do let me know if you find another place in London, as its good to have different options, Hope it helps, Thanks! María

Looking for somewhere for my tortoise Edgar to stay when we go on holidays. If anyone knows somewhere in the north London area?
I’ve done a bunch of housesits with trusted housesitters, an outfit that connects people going on vacation with people who will stay in their home and take care of their pets and plants… I love it and it works out well for everyone.

If you are close to the area the OP lives, maybe the two of you could meet up in a public place and get to know each other. Then if you two hit it off, you could take care of each others torts.
I did that myself once for a couple that were going out of the country for a month. They had leopard hatchlings so they brought them to my place.
Another tortoise person would be the best.

Oh, great!! I might visit them this weekend, how much did it cost? Thanks!
Ask them if they clean the enclosures and change the substrate for each border to make sure nothing can be passed on. Different species have different pathogens that could affect make another sick.
Hope that works out for you.

Good point, will ask and investigate further, specially for baby torts (not so baby but too small) so I want to avoid any illnesses, I am preparing an email template to ask all in one go, to be honest I would prefer indoor vivarium enclosure and when weather is good they can go out, this summer weather has been awful.. With little sunshine and cold temperatures.... Not to say.. Raining every other day ?

I'd go for indoors too and if he does goes outside I'd want him to have his own secure run too and not mix with other torts.
Our weather has been very disappointing this summer.
