They almost always start out with black new growth. I'd choose one that has the most light-colored new growth. But only time will tell. I have a sneaking suspicion that keeping them in the house, out of the sun, tends to grow them whiter.

Both of my Leopards were quite dark at that size. One is now much more white...and the other is like half and half. They are kept exactly the same and on the same diet.

That's truly impossible to predict . Just pick one and see what happens . Growth color can change greatly with time.
This is the same tortoise 1.5 years apart

Couldn't agree more. Another example for ya:

9months old "ish" with pretty white coloring


+3years old..and much darker.
